Before hitting the road, the city and its close Gold Coast neighbour are waiting to be explored. Brisbane is the third-largest city in the country and as such it has a plethora of urban delights including the cultural venues of the South Bank, the businesses, restaurants and shops of the CBD, the trendy eateries and bars of the Inner  West and the many and varied attractions in the other suburbs. Brisbane is bustling but laid-back and fun. A cruise on the Brisbane River, which winds through the city, is a great way to start.

The Gold Coast is located just to the south of Brisbane, at around an hours’ drive. It is full of entertainment of all types- beautiful surf beaches line the coast with opportunities for swimming, surfing and fishing, and behind those are a myriad of restaurants, shopping centres, bars and venues. Behind those lie the famous theme parks which draw so many families to the region.

From Brisbane, Queensland is your oyster. it is not called the Sunshine State for nothing- it is blessed with a lot of sun and very mild winters due to its subtropical and tropical climates.  Spring and Autumn are considered great times to visit.

Heading north from Brisbane in your campervan is a real adventure! The coast is dotted with relaxed and charming towns and cities, many of which have campsites and holiday parks where you can park up and stay the night. Highlights include the Sunshine Coast and Fraser Island, Mackay with its beautiful golden beaches, and of course the beautiful Whitsundays and the National Parks of that area. Further north are Townsville and Cairns, both cities which are used as gateways to the fabulous Great Barrier Reef. Port Douglas at the top of the Captain Cook Highway is a beautiful holiday resort and very close to the Daintree Rainforest, an excellent day trip. The unspoilt Cape York rises above Cairns, remote and wildly beautiful with several small communities and campgrounds to stay in.
