Adelaide, South Australia encapsulated

Australia’s southern belle, Adelaide is a stylish city of great architecture, great shopping and wonderful food and wine. It boasts a riverside CBD and a coast lined with sandy swimming beaches, as well as being the centre of South Australia’s wine regions. Capital of South Australia and the country’s 5th largest city, Adelaide has it all!

Adelaide’s central area straddles the winding River Torrens. With extensive greenery around built-up areas on either side of the river, it is a pleasant place to wander around on foot and discover the cafes, restaurants and boutiques for which Adelaide is well known. The CBD has a grid layout making it easy to navigate, and around the edges in the greenbelt you will find riverside parks and paths, the botanic gardens, a racecourse and numerous parks, gardens and playgrounds.

Adelaide’s suburbs hide some wonderful places of history and culture. Hahndorf is a German settlement a short drive up the freeway, Glenelg is an historic beachside suburb which was the first European settlement in the state, and Port Adelaide holds the story of Adelaide as South Australia’s main link with the world, bringing news and supplies by sea. Museums and galleries are plentiful throughout the city and suburbs, and the Adelaide Fringe Festival and WOMAD are both held in March and bring even more of the arts to the city.

From Adelaide, the beautiful southern coast of Australia is waiting to be explored, and it is also a short trip to Melbourne via the famous Great Ocean Road. Inland, the Stuart Highway heads through the vast Outback to Darwin. With both domestic and international flights arriving regularly, Adelaide is a perfect starting point for a road trip to anywhere.
